The Montana Council on Developmental Disabilities is recruiting for a Chief Executive Officer who possesses creativity, leadership and initiative to carry out the goals of the Council. Candidates should possess a broad knowledge of developmental disabilities and a demonstrated capacity to administer a multi-faceted program.

The Chief Executive Officer must have knowledge of organizational management of a nonprofit organization including personnel hiring and supervision, fiscal management and administration, and knowledge of the federal statute and reporting responsibilities required.

The Montana Council on Developmental Disabilities is created and funded under the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act PL106-402, and in Montana has taken the form of a nonprofit 501C3 corporation.

The Montana Council on Developmental Disabilities is made up of between 21 and no more than 28 members appointed by the Governor. Most are people with developmental disabilities and their family members. Others are representatives of agencies that work with people with developmental disabilities, representatives of the Council’s sister programs under the DD Act (protection and advocacy and University Center on Excellence) and a member of the state Legislature.

Council members are men and women who have exceptional insight and firsthand experience into the obstacles that people with developmental disabilities confront throughout their lives. Working as a Council we continue to discover and promote ways that self-advocates, families, service agencies and Federal, State and Local governments can work together so that people can live independent, fulfilling lives.

- Maintain responsibility for the administration of the Council office and for proper interpretation and fulfillment of functions, responsibilities, authority and relationships;

- Develops, supervises and manages the Council budget including Federal reports are prepared accurately and in a timely manner;

- Identifies and responds to current trends and issues, in an informed and constructive manner;

- Supports the development of leadership skills and abilities of Council members;

- Prepares and supports Council officers, committee and work groups and members to carry out their governance and policy responsibilities.

- Maintains day-to-day operations by recruiting, supervising, managing, supporting, coordinating and evaluating Council staff activities;

- Assures Council members and officers are kept fully informed on the condition and operation of the Council;

- Administers the overall development and implementation of the Council approved plan, including all projects and major activities.

- Maintains relationships with the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities, the Administration on Community Living (or it’s current form), various state agencies, legislative and executive bodies, consumer groups, service providers, advocacy organization and relevant community organizations at large.

- Bachelor’s degree or 10 years of advanced level experience in leadership, nonprofit administrative management (especially health or human services)

- Working knowledge of policy governance

$85,000 - $95,000 DOE with medical, dental, vision and life insurance
